Women of color have long been at the forefront of social change, yet their voices often remain unheard in critical conversations. As we navigate a world that is increasingly recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion, it is essential to amplify the voices of these women and engage in meaningful dialogues that address their unique challenges and contributions. This blog post aims to explore the importance of empowering women of color (WOC), the shyt WOC experience, the conversations that matter, and how we can all play a role in fostering an inclusive environment. Woman Shyt may focus on women of color, but all women are welcome to come share (constructively only), learn and support. The truth is as women we often experience more than the differences. Yes, woman shyt happens to all of us at some point.

Understanding the Landscape
The Historical Context
Women of color have faced systemic barriers for generations. From the suffrage movement to the civil rights movement, their contributions have often been overlooked. Understanding this historical context is crucial for recognizing the ongoing struggles and triumphs of women of color today.
Intersectionality: Coined by scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw, this term describes how various forms of discrimination overlap. Women of color experience unique challenges that stem from both their gender and racial identities. Black women in particular are considered at the bottom of the wrung even with all of the success held and built. Ida B. Wells, Mary Church Terrell and numerous WOC worked tirelessly for the equality and civil rights for women.
Cultural Contributions: Women of color have significantly influenced art, literature, politics, and social movements. Figures like Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde, Michelle Obama and Kamala Harris have paved the way for future generations. There are so many more women that can be added to the list. Madame C.J. Walker taught us that black women WOC can be millionaires. In 1964 Constance Baker Motley became the first Black woman elected to the New York State Senate. In 1968, Shirley Chisholm was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from New York, making her the first Black woman in Congress. Dana Owens /Queen Latifah dominated rap /hip hop, jazz and R&B in music and became a force in movies and TV as an actress.
Current Challenges
Despite progress, women of color continue to face numerous challenges, including:
Economic Disparities: Women of color often earn less than their white counterparts. According to the National Women's Law Center, Black women earn 63 cents for every dollar earned by white men, while Latina women earn just 55 cents. How people split a dollar or hold someone back and then tell them to pull themselves up by their bootstraps is insidious. WOC have to work harder and longer to make a reasonable some when others work the same number of hours and gain so much more.
Underrepresentation: In many industries, women of color are underrepresented in leadership roles. This lack of representation can perpetuate stereotypes and limit opportunities for advancement. Underrepresentation supports the ill thinking that black women are ignorant and lazy. A large percentage of WOC are formally educated and becoming entrepreneurs. If women realized their commonalities instead of differences, women could achieve so much more. Women are extraordinary. We have so much more to accomplish.
